Pontiac students now have warmer hands, thanks to nonprofit Mittens for Detroit which distributed new gloves and mittens to Pontiac schools, Jan. 27.
Through a partnership with local businesses and Pontiac Public Schools, Mittens for Detroit delivered more than 4,000 pairs of gloves and mittens to 11 public schools and two private educational programs, according to a news release.
The first stop at Owen Elementary School/Kennedy School included a brief ceremony. Afterward, volunteers helped children choose the pairs they wanted.
“For several years, it has been one of our goals to start distribution in Pontiac, to put mittens and gloves on the hands of kids here,” Wendy Shepherd, Mittens for Detroit’s executive director said in the news release.
