The Summer of Glove

People often ask us if we take the summer off since we are a seasonal charity in terms of our public-facing activities! On the contrary! Spring and Summer are spent closing out the previous Season of Warmth and getting ready for the next one. To make sure that folks are still thinking about mittens and gloves during these hot summer months, we celebrate The Summer of Glove!

Building upon the success of previous Summer of Glove activities, we are repeating the opportunities for children to have fun doing good during their summer vacation! We call this Kids Helping Kids’ Summer FUNdraising Ideas for Mittens for Detroit Jr. Philanthropists. Take a look at the flyer, and you’ll find great age-appropriate caring activities for you and your special kids to explore.

Bogeypalooza for Mittens

August 10-24, 2024

Our most exciting fundraiser of the summer is something brand new! Have you wanted to participate in a golf tournament? Maybe you are not such a great golfer, and mini golf is more your speed (that would describe Mittens for Detroit’s Executive Director Wendy!). Well, we have JUST the tournament for you!

Bogeypalooza for Mittens is a free, fun golf tournament for the rest of us! It’s a virtual golf fundraiser for players of all ages and all levels, even mini golf! It runs from August 10-24, 2024… and the winners are Detroit kids who will receive new, warm, durable mittens and gloves… because of you!

How does Bogeypalooza for Mittens work? Well, you play your best golf – 9 holes, 18 holes… or even mini golf! – and when you add up your score, count the number of bogeys. Then you’ll donate a minimum of $1 per bogey to Mittens for Detroit! This is great for individuals, teams, families, work groups… and you win the biggest prize because you will know that you did something amazing for people who really need your help!

Go to our event website by registering at https://bit.ly/BogeypaloozaForMittens or snap the QR code on the flyer. When you register, Wendy (if she’s not out mini golfing!) will send you a more detailed form that will help you with all of the “how to” of the event!

Thank you so much! We are looking forward to this event, and we would love to see you there… wherever you are!

Lemonade Stand for Mittens for Detroit!

A very fun activity for kids of all ages is the very successful Lemonade Stand for Mittens for Detroit! Kids can hone their entrepreneurial and philanthropic skills by running lemonade stands… at the same time as caring about the kids in Detroit who will receive mittens and gloves because of their hard work! If you are interested in creating a Lemonade Stand, the flyer gives you all you need to know, and if you would like more information and a fill-in-the-blank Mittens for Detroit Lemonade Stand sign for your kids to personalize, just let us know – email [email protected]

And how about giving some meaning to your garage sale this summer? Donate a portion of your proceeds, sell ice cold water bottles, put out a tip jar… and every penny you donate through your efforts helps keep kids, teens, and adults in need in Detroit warmer!

Piece & Glove

How about pizza for dinner? Well, we are partnering with Little Caesar Pizza Kit Fundraising to celebrate our first Piece & Glove pizza fundraiser celebrating our Summer of Glove! Everything you need is on the flyer… feel free to share! If you have participated in Little Caesar Pizza Kit Fundraisers before you’ll notice that there is something new! You can purchase a coupon to use at your favorite local Little Caesar!

However you order, Mittens for Detroit will receive $6, with no extra cost to you! That’s a pair of very warm, durable gloves for an upper middle school child in Detroit! All of the proceeds of this fundraiser will be used to purchase new, warm, durable mittens and gloves for Detroit Kids!
