Intimacy_Kevin Grass

Kevin Grass
Intimacy
Acrylic on panel
38 x 38 in
(includes ¾” painted wooden frame)

Purchase $12,500

Everyone today is completely obsessed with virtual relationships. When you see couples in restaurants, they are often paying more attention to their phones than to one another. This painting depicts a young couple embracing in what should be an intimate moment but instead becomes an opportunity for each person to look at their devices. Unlike most of Grass’s other work, there is no complex symbolism in this image. Grass wanted the end result to be simple and very direct.

Alien Artifact_Turner

Ken Turner
Alien Artifact
Ceramic
Ceramics, Wood, Glass, Acrylic & Light
25 x 33 x 39 in

Purchase $5,000

The colorful orb represents the tumor that lives and feeds on the artist, the tribal spears that pierce it are representations of ritual vs technology and imply targeted radiation. The piece has a working light that illuminates the glass fragments and the orb from below. The lighting creates drama and reinforces the technological aspect. The glass fragments represent the fragility of life and are juxtaposed to the triangular base, representing strength, foundation and resistance. Alien Artifact is a deeply personal piece. The alien that resides within me, cancer, feeds on my organs as it fights for its own survival. Cancer and I have both survived hard-fought battles. It attempts to consume me, while experts, use chemo, surgery and radiation as their line of attack.”

“Seek him and there is no reason to hide. Throughout my life, I’ve always struggled with vulnerability and letting people see me struggle. Throughout the years, I’ve noticed I’m only at peace when proud of my true self, & happy in my own skin, thanking God for who he made me to be (flaws and all). I’ve also realized, only when I’m allowing people to see this true self and not hiding behind lies or faking a smile, does real internal growth & change occur. These pieces helped remind myself how important this is for my mental health.”

Fractured Patterns - Mersmann

Armin Mersmann
Fractured Patterns
Graphite drawing
50 x 40 in

Purchase $12,000

“winter—the land is silent, stripped down and pure. I am awed by the sheer impact of unsentimental patterns bent and broken, intrigued by the complex quality of fallen trees. Their manic lines and texture speak to a powerful natural abstraction. The very act of drawing every branch, twig, highlight, and shadow, rendering textures from the extreme winter skins to the silkiness of new-fallen snow, transforms the scene into an intimate journey. This undertaking is considerably different than merely taking a photo or simply being there. The drawing process immersed me for hundreds of hours, interpreting and translating what I saw and felt from hundreds of reference photos, collected branches, twigs, and revisits to the site every phase is a journey of discovery and understanding. Simultaneously, it is a conscious construction of the most complex compositions and details: a simple walk in the woods and its artistic aftermath.”
